Skitter
Something that moves about very quickly and lightly.
Humphrey the hamster skittered across the floor.
Ecstatic
You feel very happy and full of excitement.
Mrs. Peicott is ecstatic that her class loves learning Word Wizard vocabulary words.
Gripe
Noun: A complaint about something.
My only gripe about the restaurant is that the food was served cold.
Verb: If you say that someone is griping, you mean they are annoying you because they keep on complaining about something.
They are always griping about the high price of sneakers.
Hoist
Lift or pull up something heavy.
A group of farmers hoisted the cow onto the trailer.
Anticipation
A feeling of excitement or worry about something that you know or think is going to happen.
I couldn't sleep from the anticipation of the first day of school!
Purpose
The purpose of something is the reason it is made or done.
The purpose of this trying to be a Word Wizard is to learn new words.The feeling of knowing what you want and being determined to achieve it or get it.
She ran onto the soccer field with purpose, with dreams of a goal.
Persevere
When you keep trying to do something and not give up, even when it's hard.
The gymnast persevered until she was able to do a back handspring.
Clench
When you clench your fist or your fist clenches, you curl your fingers up tightly, usually because you are very angry. When you clench your teeth or they clench, you squeeze your teeth together firmly, usually because you are angry or upset.
OR
If you clench something in your hand or in your teeth, you hold it tightly with your hand or your teeth so you won’t let go.
I was so mad at her that I was clenching my teeth!
It was so windy out I had to clench my hand to hold onto the kite string.
Repulsive
If you describe something or someone as repulsive, you mean that they are horrible and disgusting and you want to avoid them.
The rotten food smells repulsive.
That repulsive Halloween mask is too gory for me!
